Startups have a very short window in which they need to start winning. It could be a year or two, but sometimes it is only a few months. If you don’t hit a certain point by a certain time, you lose.
This isn’t said to depress anyone, this is just reality. The sooner you accept this, the sooner you understand that if you truly want to win, you need to do any and every thing in your control to make sure you win.
This relates to hiring/firing in a startup team. A founder/CEO once told me that they had trouble firing employees and the only way they could do it was by rationalizing in their mind that if they didn’t fire this individual they would have to fire everyone on the team because the company would fail. So remember, you have a short window to win. Let nothing hold you back.
