Tech news is riddled with mistakes and inaccuracies. At a previous job, I remember one time seeing a reputable news source mix up our Marketing Director with our CEO. I’ve also seen blatant false information and speculation about companies I’ve been involved with that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
One example of a copy and paste job- we all saw a few weeks ago the rumor of What’s App being acquired Facebook. All the reporters that wrote about the rumor, had stats on What’s App. One of them was that they have penetration in 250 countries. Really? When there are less than 200 countries on earth? ಠ_ಠ
If you see a company that’s doing something similar to yours, don’t panic. The press is pushing their launch/announcement/news. The hype will die down. If the press incorrectly writes about you, email them with the correct information. If they don’t update their articles, make sure to leave a comment on the article and put your “true” story out there.
What I am trying to say is that you should take all tech news with a grain of salt. Keep your head down and stay focused.
